What’s Popping Food-wise In LA Right Now

For those still lamenting the loss of the much-loved Klondike choco taco and seeking to somehow move on from that, the latest stuff out the freezer that you’ll find is the blessed mix of the crunchy taco from Taco Bell and NY-based Milk Bar’s truffles, which jointly make up the delightfully novel Strawberry Bell Truffle.

This is a limited-time creation which many have described as their favorite slice of cake after taking a single bite. Carrying a vanilla core, it’s studded with pieces of strawberry and covered in strawberry milk, and then filled with a center made up of sweet corn fudge. The outside of this cake has a sweet-cum-salty coating of sweet corn and strawberry, as well as small pieces of crunchy taco shell from Taco Bell.

The “Strawberry Bell Truffle” is an item that will begin appearing in stores beginning today, in a package containing two truffles which costs $2.99. It will be available till August the 16th or for as long as supplies last. You can get it at the Taco Bell store in Orange County on Red Hill Avenue, as well as Milk Bar’s outlet in LA on Melrose Avenue.

The Tasting Kitchen is set to host a wine pairing dinner alongside Biite: Friuli Italian Wine Dinner for special ticket holders on August 10 at 7 p.m. You can expect the evening to have a tasting menu with four courses, prepared by Executive Chef Travis Passerotti. The wines will be from Friuli Italian Wines.

Max Lewis—a Friuli Italian Wines partner—is set to help guests navigate the tasting menu and the exclusive wines. The menu itself includes Beef Cheek Goulash and Gnocchi di Pane. The wineries providing the wines are Pittaro, Castelvecchio, Il Carpino, Canus, and Moschioni. The price for one ticket is $210, and this comes with gratuity; you can get yours at Biite.com.

If you’re looking to celebrate National Oyster Day—which falls on the 5th of August—try out the beachside bash at Blue Plate Oysterette in SM for live jazz from 5 to 8 p.m. In DTLA down the street, you’ll have Water Grill featuring the signature Honeymoon Oyster, which is topped with tobiko, uni roe, quail egg and ikura, as well as an assortment of Kumamoto mollusks all the way from Oakland Bay, Washington; Damariscotta brought in from Damariscotta River, Maine; Chincoteague brought in from Chincoteague Bay, Maryland, and finally, creamy Rincon De Ballenas all the way from Baja, California, Mexico. Open all day will be Broad Street Oyster Co. in Malibu as well as at Grand Central Market, vending their Oyster Stout Beer crafted collaboratively with Far Field Beer Company.
